About a year ago, my Dad came along to see my Rheumatologist, to try and pressure him into doing more for me and investigate things a little deeper rather than just saying the usual rubbish. Two MRI scans later we could rule out problems at the top of the Spine and found some at the bottom. But due to the NHS and their systems that don’t work I had to contact the Rheumatologist’s Secretary each time to say my MRI request had gone missing or I’ve been waiting months for an appointment and I never received any of the “The appointment is on its way to you by post” letters!
So much so my original Rheumatologist who diagnosed me in 2007 has left the Hospitals Employment! Great!!! After all that effort I can’t even meet with him to discuss the next step! I tried to be positive and hope the new Rheumatologist would be even better but of course this turned out not to be the case.
He said he would refer me to a Neurosurgeon about by spine but other than that there is nothing more to do, I have Fibromyalgia so that’s it. I told him that I’m in my 20’s and have been bed ridden for over a year and don’t want to live the rest of my life like this, he said “It’s Fibromyalgia.” I said what about my other symptoms? (Giving him a table of symptoms printed on A4 paper) he said “It’s Fibromyalgia.” I asked about my skin being so sensitive to UV that my Dermatologist said I was the most sensitive patient she had ever encountered, he said “It’s Fibromyalgia” I tried to question him about everything, but his response what “it’s Fibromyalgia” and the most I could get out of him was that it’s down to the Pain Team.
He then made it clear that all my symptoms were Fibromyalgia and said there is nothing more that can be done and “I don’t intend to see you again.” it was very deflating and he has discharged me from Rheumatologist care!!!
So much for the Governments response of things being managed by a Rheumatologist or Neurologist under the Muscoskeletal Framework! So remember if you have unexplained symptoms and “standard” tests don’t show anything then “it’s Fibromyalgia!”
